Looking for your moment to shine in the Holy City? The City of Charleston is seeking submissions for a variety of contests and events, giving everyone a chance to get in the spotlight.

The Parade of Boats, produced by the City of Charleston and the Charleston Sail and Power Squadron, is seeking participants for this yearโ€™s event. Local boaters deck out their vessels in holiday lights and decorations for a chance at claiming the top prize โ€” prizes are awarded for both power and sail boats. Entries cost $25 for recreational vehicles and $50 for commercial vessels and are due Dec. 2. The Parade of Boats will take place on Dec. 4. Call (843) 724-7414 for more info.ย

The winner will have their image distributed throughout the city on program books, festival posters, and merchandise, and theyโ€™ll be awarded between $500 and $1,000. Deadline is Dec. 9. Get more info at (843) 724-7305.

The city is also seeking artists for the 2011 Charleston Farmers Market poster contest. The winning design should evoke the Farmers Marketโ€™s mission to support and advocate Lowcountry farmers. Applicants must live in the tri-county area and theyโ€™re limited to two entries. Winners will have their image distributed throughout the city on Farmers Market merchandise and theyโ€™ll be awarded between $300 and $500. The deadline is Dec. 10. Call (843) 724-7305 for more details.

It seems like the MOJA Arts Festival just wrapped up, but theyโ€™re already planning the 2011 event, which will take place Sept. 29-Oct. 9. If youโ€™d like to perform or present at the African American and Caribbean Arts Festival, send a cover letter, example of your work, photos, and press information to the Office of Cultural Affairs. The deadline is Jan. 14.
