The sixth annual March Madness Battle of the Bands competition is solid for four rounds next month. Last year, the series took place at the old A Dough Re Mi venue. This year, the battle returns to the Village Tavern.
The preliminary rounds are scheduled for Fri. March 4, Fri. March 10, and Fri. March 25. The finals are set for Thurs. March 31. According to enthusiastic organizer Stuart Johnson (of local band Allnightkungfu), participating bands (“original artists only”) will be battling for a chance to win $500 plus 75 percent of the door on the night of the final round. Each event will be judged by longtime panelist Deb Burdick, venue staffers, and local scenesters.
“Its purpose is to let up-and-coming bands engage in friendly competition as well as help find their place in the local music scene,” says Johnson. “Rather than an entry fee, the entry requirements are a poster design and bio.”
