Weekend Round-Up: A very hairy weekend

Whether its growing on a man’s face or on a dog’s back, this weekend is all about hair. Good thing the weather’s going to be nice.

First up is the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition. There’s events going on all around downtown, from dogs diving into water, birds of prey flying through the air, speakers, films, and more. One (free) highlight is the SEWE King Street Stroll, but you can see our complete SEWE guide here.

For a different kind of SEWE experience, head to SEWE to Soiree. It features local art, live music, demonstrations, and more.

It’s also the Southeaster Beard and Moustache Championships. A bunch of really hairy dudes in one central location? I can’t wait.

Freshfields Village hosts an Art and Wine Walk.

Get some blasts from the past at the 54th Massachusetts Company I Civil War Reenactment Regiment or the Confederate Walking Tour and Haunted Charleston Tour.

Or, for a funnier take on history, there’s Theatre 99’s The Complete History of Charleston for Morons. They’ve also got Neckprov shows.

King Street Grille (the Folly Road one) has a comedy night, featuring Brian T. Shirley, Bill Davis, Philip Cohen, Big Ike, and Derek Humpheries.

And there’s Neil Hamburger. That should be a pretty neat show at the Tin Roof. I’m clearing my throat in anticipation.

Help support Ovis Hill Farms, which lost its barn and more than 500 animals in December, with a Barn Raising. Chefs like Jeremiah Bacon, Frank Lee, and a ton more will help prepare an oyster roast, with live music from Elise Testone.

They say that Jesus could walk on water, but do you think he’d also run for water at the MESSA 8K for H20? Sorry, that’s kind of an innappropriate joke. Seriously, go support Charleston Waterkeeper at this event.

The South Carolina Stingrays play the Greenville Road Warriors.

Chase After a Cure will host a gala with food from a number of local chefs and live music from PlaneJane. On Sunday is the Benefit for the Kervins, who lost their home in a fire, at Blu on Folly Beach.

See a CSO String Quartet concert or listen to the CSO Spiritual Ensemble’s A Low Country Spiritual Journey. Chamber Music Charleston also has a performance this weekend, and there’s the Third Sunday Concert Series at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.
