Starting with softer-sounding new songs and closing with their classic, loud ‘n’ proud rock anthems, the Drive-By Truckers left an appreciative packed house at the Music Farm with ears ringing on April 14. Opening with "I Do Believe," the first track off their new album Go-Go Boots, they moved through a few other new songs, including the title track, before eventually settling into a string of hard rockers.
"Where The Devil Don’t Stay," off 2004’s The Dirty South, was an early highlight and a forecast of the second half of the show, when old school fans yowled in delight for "Lookout Mountain" and "Let There Be Rock." Bandleader/singer/guitarist Patterson Hood was as energetic as always, bouncing around the stage with delight. Co-founder Mike Cooley, also on vocals and guitar, provided the best new song of the night with the fantastic "Pulaski."
Leave it to the Truckers to release a milder album and then rock the Music Farm like it’s 2001. Either way, it worked.
