No one seemed to be drinking coffee at the new Local Coffee Shop in West Ashley Friday night. Rather, alcohol seemed to be the drink of choice, and with ice-cold cups of wine and bottles of Corona in hand, the crowd enjoyed the opening of The Three Amigos Ride Again, For the First Time.
Featuring works from local artists Meta Sapient, Proton Factories, and Badjon (a.k.a. City Paper contributor Jon Stout), the event also marked the launch of the refurbished coffee shop formerly known as Muddy Waters. The trio’s art covered the walls, from Proton’s Super Mario-inspired prints to Badjon’s infrared photography to Meta’s more abstract paintings.
Sweeteeth’s Johnny Battles offered up a selection of chocolates created just for the show, and out in the parking lot, food trucks Roti Rolls and Diggity Doughnuts saw a steady stream of hungry customers. I finally got up the nerve to sample Diggity’s Sriracha and peanut butter donut, and I could have eaten about three more. Seriously, go try it. And if you didn’t make it out on Friday, stop by Local to see the art and get a taste of their new coffee.
