Don’t worry. They’re not looking for people who only eat females. Instead, Lowcountry Local First is looking for women who have a passion and a plan for the local food community.
Women can apply for a $2,000 grant to help their projects or businesses that fall into one of the following categories: grow, nourish, inspire, or give, which covers everything from sustainable agriculture and businesses that focus on cooking local food or producing a local food product to educational programs and community enrichment projects.
So, if you’re tilling a community garden, delivering fresh local food meals to the elderly, teaching children about science through gardening, or starting up a food truck — and you’re a chick — then this opportunity is for you. Applications will be accepted through July 8 and require an in-depth description of your project as well as a willingness to make a presentation at the femivore event in August. Four finalists will be chosen to speak at the event and a winner will be voted on that night.
