You’ve been to Butcher & Bee by now, right? If you haven’t, you need to get over there and try one of their gourmet sandwiches. We haven’t found one we didn’t like, and we’ve eaten there a bunch.

Now that they’ve got a month or so of Banh Mi’s and gyros behind them, B&B is taking it up a notch with a pop-up dinner event. The Upper King Street restaurant is generally open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and 11 p.m.-3 a.m. Owner Michael Shem-Tov’s been planning to use those dark evening hours between 5 and 10 p.m. for occasional special events.

The first one — with a Vietnamese-themed menu — is slated for Thurs. Dec. 15 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Shem-Tov has tapped some friends from Vietnam to craft an ethnic smorgasbord of pho, egg rolls, and spring rolls — all made using local produce, meats, and eggs with herbs and garnishes gathered from the B&B garden. The Nguyen family, who immigrated back in the ’70s, will also be serving Vietnamese crepes made with dried yellow mung beans and stuffed with fresh ingredients like shrimp, pork, and mushrooms.

The menu will be on the chalkboard that night, and it’s first-come-first-serve.
