Listen up, closet novelists: The S.C. Arts Commission, Hub City Press, and their literary partners are seeking submissions for the biennial S.C. First Novel Prize.

Applicants must be residents of S.C. and at least 18 years of age, and their works cannot have been published previously, not even self-published. Only manuscripts between 150 and 400 single-sided pages are eligible.

Applicants’ works will be reviewed anonymously by panelists, and the final six to eight novels will be judged by Charleston-based novelist Josephine Humphreys. The winner will get a book contract with Spartanburg-based Hub City Press with a $500 advance against royalties.

The deadline is March 19. Find out more info at southcarolinaarts.com/firstnovel or call (803) 734-8696.
