Lee Barbour

Veteran local jazz/experimental guitarist Lee Barbour is putting the final touches on his forthcoming album Nonfiction. Barbour describes the music as “indie jazz,” with a mix of compositions and improvised pieces. It’s his fourth album and his first as an official bandleader.

Guest players on the tracks include a few highly acclaimed out-of-towners — drummer Jeff Sipe and saxophonists John Ellis and Kebbi Williams — along with local cats Quentin Baxter (drums), Ron Wiltrout (percussion), Gerald Gregory (piano), and Jake Holwegner (bass).

Barbour tracked the disc live at Hello Telescope in Charleston and at Sound Temple Studios in Asheville, N.C. Local engineer Majeed “MJ” Fick (of Truphonic Recording) oversaw the production. Look for Barbour and his backing band when they perform a CD release show at the Pour House on Fri. Feb. 17 at 9 p.m.
