Charleston quartet the Local Honeys drew a nice, big crowd to the Tattooed Moose on Tues. Jan. 10 for a night of twangy cowgirl songs, cheerful ukulele pop, and organic Americana — from swingin’ originals to renditions of Wanda Jackson to Gillian Welch hits.
The quartet consists of Sarah Bandy (of Girls Rock! Charleston) on vocals ukulele, tambourine; the Shaniqua Brown’s frontlady Rachel Kate Gillon on vocals, guitar, and percussion; Brad Edwardson (of the Flat Foot Floozies) on upright bass; and Camela Guevara on drums. All four members of the Local Honeys sat down with the City Paper on the Moose’s deck for a chat and a pint.
Singer/guitarist Michael Fallins, the bassist for Columbia-based band Say Brother, played a brief opening set of strummy tunes under the name Outdoor Protestant Blues Band before the Honeys set up and kicked off their feisty show.
