The Charleston Comedy Festival continues Thursday with four solid shows, including the fest’s first out-of-towners’ show. We already gave you the lowdown on Beardmageddon, so we’ll move right on to talking about the Stand-Up Showdown with Nate Bargatze, Travis FromLongville, and Tone Bell.
Though the comedians get inspired in different ways (FromLongville typically prepares over drinks and doobies with buddies, while Bargatze people watches), they each bring with them a heavy dose of hysterics. They originally hail from the South — Bargatze from Tennessee, Bell from Georgia, and FromLongville from, you guessed it, Longville, Louisiana — they’ve since spread their talents across the country, earning a growing following wherever they go. The trio of jokesters will take the stage at The American Theater at 8 p.m.
Over at Theatre 99 at 8:30 p.m., Laugh for a Lincoln features Moral Fixation and the Theatre 99 Jam is a great budget-friendly option. Moral Fixation is made up of local improv vets Greg Tavares and Lee Lewis. Following Fixation, a jamboree of sorts will take the stage in the Theatre 99 Jam featuring six or seven performers, most of whom are regulars at T99 — though you should always cross your fingers for an appearance from a recently-arrived national act.
Later that evening, check out Laugh for a Lincoln featuring Cats Hugging Cats and 3 Men and a Little Lady. Both of the imrpov teams start their show with ideas courtesy of the crowd and then they take normal subjects to off-the-wall extremes.
After things wrap up at Theatre 99, be sure to head on over to the Mellow Mushroom, the L’After Party headquarters each night of the Charleston Comedy Festival. Dante’s Camaro will provide live music, and several Sweetwater brews will be available for $3.
