Kyle Durrie’s Moveable Type truck rolled into town Thursday and was met with a warm welcome at Sideshow Press on Cannon Street. The letterpress ladies pulled out all the stops for their fellow printer, stringing up lights in the lot behind the building and offering fresh popcorn, boiled peanuts, and glass bottles of soda.
Attendees were given the chance to make their very own letterpress creation to remember the occasion, first printing a silver peanut on a press in Sideshow’s back building, then topping it with orange text, reading “I’m voting for the peanut party,” in Durrie’s van, assisted by Durrie herself.
As bluegrass music played on the speakers, guests browsed the stationery goodies up for sale (we loved Durrie’s “WTFWJD” card) and posed for photographer Charlotte Elizabeth in front of a backdrop created from vintage printing supplies. At the end of the night, Charleston bid farewell to Durrie and her truck as they continued their trek up the coast.
