TUESDAY. It’s the dreaded Valentine’s Day, but it doesn’t have to be dreadful for your wallet. The Cocktail Club, Mellow Mushroom, and Mercury Bar are having singles-fueled free events.
WEDNESDAY. Mark Jones will present his lecture Doin’ The Charleston: Black Roots of American Popular Music and the Jenkins’ Orphanage Legacy.
THURSDAY. Hound dogs will love Summerville’s Elvis-themed Third Thursday. Nance Sneddon, Jennie Summerall, and Beth Carlson have art openings.
FRIDAY. A new Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Charleston has a grand opening in West Ashley. RSVP for Modern Trousseau’s Bridal Trunk Show, which starts today. SEWE opens today too, which has a couple of free events scattered about, including tonight’s King Street Stroll, or stay downtown for Art in the Evening, or head to West Ashley for Becca Barnet’s opening. Or skip the SEWE madness and head to Freshfields Village for their art and wine walk. Comedian Dave Lippman performs at Mad River, and multimedia project La Soupe Dangereuse takes over Tivoli.
SATURDAY. Experts at College Goal South Carolina will help you learn about college financial aid. Pick up a new pastime at the Kayak Open House. Oysters and other food will be available for purchase at Irvin-House Vineyards’ Grapes Gone Wild!, but the music and the chance to sit out on the lawn are free. And there are two perfect reasons to be at the Rec Room tonight: the Holy City Beard & Moustache Society Poster Unveiling Party and the pinball tournament, which is free to watch. SUNDAY. Fish Stories may sound a little stinky, but it’s actually a pretty neat informational and culinary event focused on helping the public learn about fresh, local seafood options and issues in the Lowcountry. More Than a Month will have a screening in Park Circle.
