Tivoli artist Dan Dickey has nearly outgrown his studio at the King Street warehouse-turned-alternative art studio. Developed as an industrial space for the local creative set, Tivoli has been the home of Dickey and his vibrant, “controlled chaos” paintings and photographs since its founding.
On Fri. Feb. 24, Dickey emerges from the warehouse with his first solo show at MyPhone MD on King Street, displaying a full retrospective of work influenced by the “raw emotion and chaos which comes from being alive,” he says. Dickey lays it on thick, adding layers of oil paint to blank canvases and even old movie posters and record albums, giving new life to old things.
“About half of my paintings have been painted over, which adds a new level of depth to each piece,” says Dickey. The free event offers a chance to meet the man behind the paint-smeared canvases as well as drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Find out more here.
