Kevin Costner and Modern West

Veteran actor and director Kevin Costner likes to play a bit of music on the side. In 2008, when he was in the Charleston area working on a thriller titled The New Daughter, he made time for a gig at the Music Farm with his country-rock band, Modern West, a project that began as a collaboration between Costner and actor/musician John Coinman.

The band has performed in Europe, Asia, Canada, South America, and across the U.S. “I always thought that music could build a stronger, more personal moment with people,” Costner says in a recent press release. “It could create an opportunity for genuine exchange much greater than a movie, TV interview, or magazine. It would be real, full of mistakes, and without apology. But most of all, there would be a chance to have some fun.”

This month, Costner and company will kick off an extensive tour of the East Coast and return to the Music Farm on Sun. April 1. Advance tickets are available for $30. Visit and for more.
