Charleston band SKXZBXX

The popular live music series Party at the Point is back in swing this season at the Charleston Harbor Resort in Mt. Pleasant. Music will start around 6 p.m. every week in the Sunset Deck area. The series continues through late July.

Horn-driven ska/funk band SKWZBXX, a popular act in the Charleston band scene during the late ’90s, will kick things off with a two-set show on Fri. April 27. Five of the original six band members — singer Rik Cribb, drummer Jack Burg, trombonist/singer Steve Spaulding, trumpeter/vocalist Charlton Singleton, bassist Jonathan Holt, and guitarist/vocalist Brad MacLean — will reconvene on the harborside stage around 7 p.m. Local funk-rock quartet Old You opens at 6 p.m.

Organizer Rob Lamble (of Ear for Music) booked a variety of local and touring rock, funk, alt-country, and pop artists. The following week’s event is billed as Virginia Americana/rock band Sons of Bill’s CD release party with support from the Greenville-based Southern-rock/country group the Piedmont Boys. Forthcoming concerts include performances by Long Miles, Dub Island and the Dubplates, the Dave Matthews Tribute Band , Will Hoge, Southwood, the Movement, Of Good Nature, Sgt. Submarine, Sol Driven Train, Fowler’s Mustache, Drivin’ N’ Cryin’, and Luke Cunningham.
