Parkour is a public act, so the guys who got arrested for, um, parkouring on the support beams for the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge on Monday are bound to have been spotted practicing their art around Charleston. Local filmmaker Justin Nathanson thinks he might have caught one of them on film.
Nathanson, whose silent film Charleston, a love letter, will premiere Saturday at the Hippodrome, has been shooting footage all over the Holy City for years now, and when he saw a mug shot of Ravenel Bridge climber Kahrall Arkeen Wright, he thought he recognized the face.
About two weeks ago, during a dog show in Marion Square, Nathanson saw a person performing stunts on the base of the John C. Calhoun monument. “He was making a spectacle,” Nathanson says. “He was making sure people saw him and heard him, and I certainly did. He was good at what he was doing. I just think he pulled a stunt that probably wasn’t very smart.”
The clip did not make the final cut for Nathanson’s film.
