You’ve never seen a bachelor party like this one. On Friday, former Theatre 99 company member John Brennan is celebrating his final days of singledom by throwing the Bachelor Party Improv Jam.

“Basically I realized that half of my groomsmen were improvers,” says Brennan, star of The Banana Monologues. While he’s based in New York City now, most of his friends still live in Charleston with their families. Theatre 99 was the obvious choice for a venue.

“The theme is ‘Roasting John Brennan.’ There’s this epic quality of having 16 improvisers and having them all work together in a celebration and having them make fun of me,” Brennan says.

Among the local improvisers are Theatre 99 and The Have Nots! founder Brandy Sullivan, as well as Jessica Mickey, one of the founding members of Mary Kay has a Posse. Other improvisers include Brennan’s friends from ImprovOlympic in Chicago and UCB Theatre in New York City. “It’s a good, eclectic mix of improvisers and funny people,” Brennan says.

The event is Fri. Aug. 17 10 p.m., and tickets are $8.
