Park Circle Films’ November schedule is out. On Nov. 3, they’ll show the 2011 Cannes Film Festival winner Las Acacias. The story follows a lonely truck driver named Rubén who picks up a woman in distress and develops a relationship with her over the long drive.
Anime fans should mark their calendars for Nov. 7, when Park Circle will show their FUNimation at the Movies selection, King of Thorns. After waking from what was supposed to be a 48-hour hibernation, Japanese schoolgirl Kasumi realizes that she’s been asleep for much longer and the world she now lives in is populated by monstrous aberrations of nature.
On Nov. 10, see the SXSW Audience Award-winning Fat Kids Rule the World. Troy is an overweight, suicidal 17-year-old. But before he can kill himself, he’s saved by Marcus, a charming high school dropout and street musician. When Marcus enlists Troy to be the drummer in his new band, an unlikely friendship blossoms.
PCF’s Silver Screen series, developed in partnership with the North Charleston Cultural Arts Deptartment, features Alfred Hitchcock’s Notorious on Nov. 17. This espionage thriller takes place in Nazi Germany, where government agent T.R. Devlin (Cary Grant) recruits American beauty Alicia Huberman (Ingrid Bergman) to spy on her father’s influential Nazi friends. As part of her cover, Alicia marries one of her father’s associates, but soon finds that she is falling hopelessly in love with Devlin.
Finally, on Nov. 18 see Solar Mamas, part of PCF’s Community Cinema series, which previews PBS Independent Lens films prior to their release. This documentary follows Rafea, a 30-year-old Jordanian mother of four, as she leaves her village for the first time to attend the Barefoot Solar Engineering program in India, which trains women from impoverished rural villages around the world to become solar engineers.
