Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk is like the Bible of punk — that is if true-blue punks believe in such a thing, which they don’t. The book by authors Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain goes into exhaustive, nitty-gritty detail about the formative days of the genre and artists who created it, from the Velvet Underground and the Stooges to the Ramones and the Sex Pistols. Released in 1997, Please Kill Me features interviews from nearly every notable in the punk rock universe — from Iggy Pop to Richard Hell, Patti Smith, and Dee Dee Ramone. On Mon. Jan. 28. McNeil and McCain will host a reading and meet-and-greet at the Tin Roof. McNeil is the co-founder of the old-school Punk zine, which he put together with friends as a teenager, and grew up to work as a senior editor at Spin. McCain is a poet and author in her own right.
