If you think your art has what it takes to withstand critique by a Bloomberg News art critic, then listen closely. Carolina’s Got Art! invites professional and amateur artists from North and South Carolina to enter its third annual competition. All mediums will be accepted, including paintings, photography, sculptures, woven pieces, ceramics, and more. The competition offers local artists the opportunity to gain exposure for their work and the chance to compete for $15,000 in cash and prizes.
This year, Bloomberg News‘s Lance Esplund will review participating artists’ work. Esplund, former chief art critic at the New York Sun and Wall Street Journal, will select pieces to hang in Elder Gallery in South End, Boston during a month-long show in May, giving artists an opportunity to sell their work in one of the city’s premier art galleries.
Elder Gallery owner Larry Elder will juror a second show for all artists not selected by Esplund. Elder will select 40-50 pieces to hang in the gallery in June. All participating artists will be featured in a virtual show, “Through the Juror’s Eyes,” to display and sell all submitted work during May and June.
Artists may enter up to three original pieces created within the past two years. Artists whose work is chosen can drop off their pieces at eight locations throughout North and South Carolina, including the Charleston Art Shop on King Street. The entry fee is $35, and all entries must be submitted online at carolinasgotart.com by March 15.
