A new walk-up service café has emerged in the heart of downtown.
Robert and Kristen Cassi both with years of experience in the food and beverage industry have recently opened Persimmon Café inside the College Laundry on Calhoun Street.
“We always wanted to open up a café with a small neighborhood feel, where we could keep it fun and interesting,” says Robert.
The café has no table or chairs just a walk-up counter stocked with locally sourced food and coffee. Most of the vegetables are from GrowFood Carolina while this café specializes in distinctive sandwiches and soups like their Kobe Beef Hotdog on a brioche roll, with dijon mustard, red onion jam, and diced jalapeños ($7.50) or the butternut squash curry and cream soup ($4).
During the weekdays 4-6 p.m. stop in for their Soup Happy Hour for half-off soups. Each soup comes with a fresh baguette from Brown’s Court Bakery. If you need a pick-me-up, Persimmon also features coffee blends from Charleston Coffee Roasters including a blend specific to the café.
“We focus on really well crafted foods paired with well blended coffee. We are trying to push the envelope while keeping it fun,” adds Robert.
