This week, fashion takes the Holy City by storm — there’s Fashion Week, of course, but there are also a bunch of fringe events happening, from trunk shows to runway shows.
Monday. Don’t miss your chance at five minuets of fame — today is the last day to register for the X-Factor auditions that begin tomorrow at the North Charleston Coliseum. As part of CofC’s Adam Smith Week, the college is hosting the lecture “The Economic Fate of America’s Middle Class” by Dr. Don Boudreaux of George Mason University.
Was the Cat in the Hat black? Find out at this lecture on Seuss and Race in the 1950s given by scholar Philip Nell.
Also tonight there’s another Monday Night Concert Series, free for CofC students, featuring organist JeeYoon Choi.
Tuesday. Mercury is hosting the first official after-party for Charleston Fashion Week tonight including music from DJ rDot.
In celebration of CofC’s 2013 Young Contemporaries student exhibition, juror and visual artist Scott Stulen, will give a lecture about his work.

Wednesday. Charleston Fashion week continues to heat up with the night two official after-party at Mynt featuring DJ Y-Not. Or check out the unofficial after party celebrating the launch of the new online retailer fkvintage at Mellow Mushroom.
Ashley Hall is hosting a book fair where you can browse books for students K-12 grades through Friday.
Veteran Civil Rights activist and current President of Voorhees College Dr. Cleveland Sellers kicks off the African Literature Association Conference with a lecture tonight.
Thursday. If you haven’t started celebrating Charleston Fashion Week already, you’ll have plenty of chances today. There’s the night three after party at The Cocktail Club, the Cynthia Rowley Celebration of her new fall collection, the Trina Turk Trunk Show at Cooper Penny, and the grand opening of Out of Hand’s new shop, South.
Head to Brittlebank Park and attend the Jubilee Project Memorial Ceremony. Ann Caldwell and the Magnolia Singers will perform.

Friday. Charleston Crafts Gallery and Cooperative is hosting the opening reception of Wabi Sabi: Imperfectly Perfect, Asian Spice in American Art, where members of the cooperative will explore Asian design and techniques in a variety of fine craft mediums. Regina Semko will also demonstrate the origami and kirigami techniques she uses to make decorative sculptural works from Japanese Chiyogami and rice papers.
The Canadian/Tanzanian writer Moyez Vassanji will read from his latest novel, The Magic of Saida.
Republic Reign on King Street is hosting Charleston Fashion Week’s night four after party with DJ SK.
Saturday. Attend the Masters of the Building Arts Festival today which will include workshops, lectures, demonstrations, and exhibitions by students and faculty as well as nationally-known artisans and companies.
