If you’re bummed Fashion Week is over, don’t be — Easter is coming, and that means candy, candy, and candy. Oh, and springtime.
Monday. Grab some coffee after work and head to the Barnes and Noble in West Ashley to get your literary kick. Hugh Howey, a former CofC student and author of the recent bestseller, Wool, will be there to talk about his post apocalyptic hit and sign books. Then end your Monday right with some local acoustic sets at Boone’s.
Tuesday. Get your friends together at Elliotborough’s favorite beer joint to see who’s got the most random knowledge during Cutty’s Trivia Night. Then head to The Royal American for Eclectic Evenings. This week’s televised music performance will feature Shrimp City Slim, Shelly Waters, Whiskey Diablo, and the Jefferson Coker Band.
Wednesday. Sip on a latte and chill with the acoustic stylings of the Amazing Mittens at City Lights Coffeeshop.
Thursday. Celebrate Easter with the Shaw Afterschool Easter Egg Hunt for kids ages 5-11. Later, head to the Halsey for the The MisAdventures of the Dunderheads, an independent film about a highly dysfunctional family fleeing to Canada. Four of the filmmakers will be there for a Q&A after the screening, so don’t miss this chance to learn a little more about independent filmmaking.
After the film, grab some dinner at HomeTeam BBQ where the alt-Southern band, The Outervention, will be putting on a free show.
Friday. The Easter fun continues with Easter egg hunts at Martin Park, Johns Island Park, the Arthur Christopher Community Center, and the Thomas Johnson Playground.
If you liked Dunderheads, there’s another new film to see today at The Meeting Space in North Charleston. Arboreal Mind Productions presents Phantasos: Sognare Dove Nascondo, a film and musical performance telling the story of a struggling man.
Saturday. Take the kids to Hampton Park for the mother of all Easter celebrations, the Easter EGGstravaganza. There will be egg hunts, a climbing wall, pony rides, the Easter Bunny, and more.
You could exercise your vocal abilities with the Sacred Harp Singing group Saturday afternoon. They welcome newcomers to join in on some hymns and folk tunes.
Return to North Charleston’s Meeting Space for an unusual puppet show. In The Minds Eye, a three-day art show, finishes up with the Wayang shadow puppet theatre.
Sunday. The kids won’t be the only ones having fun this Easter. Tin Roof is hosting a brunch and grown-up Easter egg hunt. Then spend the rest of the day recuperating from all that candy before the week starts all over again.
