It’s stopped raining for a bit and the weather is warm, so we think you should hop in the car and head to the nearest ice cream treat emporium. Here are a few of our favorite stand-bys along with a couple surprising spots.
At Paolo’s Gelato customers can choose from four categories of flavors; Crème, Fruit, Flower, and Vegetable. Paolo’s serves this less fatty (1/3 less!) take on a frozen delight in cups and cones. Prices range from $5 to $7 if purchased by the cup, and sizes range from five ounces to seven ounces. Cones range from $4 to $6 with sizes from four ounces to six ounces.
Sundaes and soft-serve ice cream are abundant at Jack’s Cosmic Dogs. Try the Fruitopian Frenzy for $3.95. This cool treat blends vanilla soft-serve, strawberries, raspberry sauce, and whipped cream together for an out-of-this-world experience. The Milky Way can also be found at Jack’s, so don’t go searching for it in the night sky. Vanilla and chocolate soft serve are topped with chocolate sauce, pecans and whipped cream. This galactic serving costs $4.85. They also have cones of vanilla, chocolate, or swirled for $1.75, $1.95, and $2.95. Customers also have the option of making their own Sundae with toppings running for 35 cents each.
Lychee Pot De Crème and Peach Crumble Reconsidered both offer a sweet escape and a different take on a summertime favorite at Tristan. The Lychee Pot De Crème has pistachio gelato, raspberry crumb, candied rose, and hibiscus gelee for $10. For the same price Tristan also serves up a Peach Crumble Reconsidered with oatmeal gelato, roasted peach sorbet, and whipped sorghum.
On King Street, Belgian Gelato has classic, sorbet, and yogurt gelato, all made fresh. Hugo Heule of Belgian Gelato says their most popular flavors are the chocolate extreme and 100 percent pure pistachio. One scoop of this gelato, made daily, in a waffle cone runs $3.75
The ice cream flavors at West Ashley’s favorite Chinese restaurant, Red Orchids, are very unique. Grab a shot glass, one scoop, or two scoops of Chocolate Cayenne, Brazilian Latte, Honey Bourbon Salted Caramel, and even Black Sesame. Prices range from $3 for a shot glass to $6.95 for two scoops.
