Charleston’s newest Market Street breakfast joint, a chain based out of Louisiana, opened last week and raised a bunch of money for area charities by inviting diners in to eat for free — but with a catch. They had to donate money to a chosen charity of the day.

The promotion raised a total of $4,850: $900 for Charleston Friends of the Library, $1,150 for Charleston Parks Conservancy, and $2,800 for Crisis Ministries.

ABEC is now open daily from 7:30 a.m. – to 4 p.m., seven days a week, serving a giant menu with more than 90 items. The restaurant is located at 99 S. Market Street in the space formerly occupied by Barbara Jean’s.
