The Gibbes Museum of Art is taking entries for the annual Mary Whyte Art Educator Award. The prize of $2500 is presented to a South Carolina high school visual art teacher who exemplifies commitment to student education and art.

Applicants must submit a resume, a lesson plan, and examples of student work produced under the plan. This year’s winner, Wando High School’s Ashley Webb, submitted a lesson that had her students represent their family structure using visual symbols from art and literature.

The award is named after nationally recognized watercolorist and Johns Island resident Mary Whyte. Applications can be submitted at marywhyteaward.org until March 1.
