It is one thing to slurp an oyster, it is quite another to attempt to catch one from 15 feet away. At least that’s what we learned at Leon’s Wednesday afternoon.

Last week during our tour of new King Street fried chicken and oyster emporium we met its star, Mike Rogers, a 30-plus year oyster shucking machine from New Orleans. While chatting with Rogers, he promised to show us his tricks — ones that have earned him the title of six-time shucking champ. Well, he made good on that promise, much to our chagrin.

He says this flinging business will be a common sport at the restaurant. To test your own oyster catching skills, stop by 698 King St. and tell Mike we sent you.
