Recently, the staff at City Paper got a delivery of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams to try out, and the office came to a standstill. We couldn’t even wait for the frozen gold to thaw and attacked it with a knife — er, spoon. It was worth it. And when the store finally opens on Thursday and dishes out free scoops to everyone, you can bet we’ll be there. That could be because we hate to pass up anything free, but even if we had to pay for the scoops, we’d be first in line.
The grand opening celebrations start at 7 p.m. on Thursday, and the first 50 attendees will receive a swag bag full of goodies and a bandana created just for the Charleston store. But that’s not the only thing that was created exclusively for the shop. “Jeni Britton Bauer, the company’s founder, dreamed up a special flavor for Charleston as well, called Sweet Cream with molasses and peanuts,” says Ellen Schmedinghoff, a representative for Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. “It’s her very delicious interpretation of our city.”
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will be open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
