Great news Johns Island duck club lovers, Tattooed Moose will break ground next Wed. Aug. 6 on a second location at 3328 Maybank Highway.

Thanks to the wild success of their downtown location, owners Jen and Mike Kulick and executive chef/operating partner Jason Houser decided to open a another Moose, in this case one that’ll feature a custom smoke house and an outdoor bar. The new restaurant will also host live music.

If Houser’s name sounds familiar, here’s why: He’s the brains behind Meathouse, an artisan butcher shop that has a booth at the Farmers Market in Marion Square. Thanks to his partnership with the Moose, Houser will finally have his own brick-and-mortar butcher shop on the property.

“Tattooed Moose will open first and then the butcher shop will open after that is up and running,” Houser tells us. “It’s going to be a retail butcher shop with other items.” Fans of Meathouse will find their favorites like Houser’s bacon, retail custom meat, pâté, and charcuterie.

“We’re excited to bring the Moose’s funky vibe to Johns Island, where we feel like we’ll be a one-of-a-kind spot,” says owner Jen Kulick in a press release. The projected opening is set for Spring/Summer 2015.

In addition to the Tattooed Moose, the Kulicks also own Voodoo Lounge in West Ashley.
