On Wed. Jan. 14, Redux artist Morgan Cole is hosting the Starving Artist Party, a solo show of her paintings, at Social Wine Bar at 188 East Bay St. downtown. Cole, who’s a graduate of Clemson University with a BFA in studio art, will be showing a series of about 30 pieces, all oil on panel or canvas. “This body of work was inspired by the aged and weathered concrete on the Charleston peninsula,” she says.
The paintings are in a wide range of sizes and range in price from $30 to $650. “Most of the paintings at the show will be contemporary paintings which show the formal qualities of paint,” Cole says. “Think drip lines, splatters, purposeful brushstrokes. But I also will have another set of paintings which are reminiscent of the coast line.” We also spotted a couple American flag paintings on Cole’s Facebook page that look inspired by Jasper Johns’ iconic flag series.
