Chef Robert Carter’s renovation of Wentworth Grill is complete and beginning Mon. March 30 the new Barony Tavern will open for dinner inside the Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel. City Paper got a first look at the former chef of Peninsula Grill and Rutledge Cab Co.’s new space designed by architect Dan Sweeney of Stumphouse. What we found is a Southern hunting lodge with nods to the Scottish Highlands and the golden age of anthropomorphic Victorian taxidermy — think a monocle-wearing fox and a bow-tied bobcat.

The tavern and dining room will have two different menus and Carter will run the hotel’s breakfast, banquets, and room service in addition to the restaurant.

Once officially open next week, Barony’s hours will be Monday through Sunday, 7 a.m.-10 a.m. for breakfast; 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. for lunch; and 5:30 p.m.–10 p.m. for dinner (serving until 11 p.m. on weekends). The Tavern menu will be available from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week. For reservations call (843) 247-4246.
