It’s a sad time for Mall Madness fans. The halcyon days playing Milton Bradley’s ’90s shopping board game in our Blossom hats and perms are now irrelevant. The indoor mall is dying and nowhere is that more clear than at Citadel Mall.

Sure, there have been some small rays of hope for the declining galleria. In October Post & Courier’s Abigail Darlington reported the mall’s proposal to “demolish the interior of the mall and to leave the anchor tenants in place” in addition to adding retail, residential, and office space. Then, last month The Post & Courier announced that Planet Fitness was expanding into Citadel Mall, filling four empty storefronts. But this weekend we got word of another closure: King Street Grille.

In a press release King Street Grille’s Director of Operations Tod Dundas writes:

Due to uncontrollable circumstances, we have determined that it is in the best interest of the King Street Grille as a company to close the Citadel Mall location. Fortunately, the King Street Grille enjoys the success of four (4) other very healthy locations in the local area to transfer those employees and staff affected from this closure.

Dundas adds that the chain’s remaining Grilles will honor all gift certificates. Sadly, there will be no more loaded potato egg rolls post-Hollister splurge. What’s that? Citadel Mall’s Hollister closed too? Dang. No cargo shorts either.
