The City Paper is honored to premiere the first single — “Little Pharaoh” — off She Returns From War’s debut LP Oh, What a Love, which will be released with a party to boot on Tues. Sept. 29 at the Royal American.
You may have heard “Little Pharaoh” on last year’s EP, Coyote Soda, but the retailored version is a new, other-worldly interpretation. Local musician Johnny Delaware and his electric-guitar handiwork helped translate the Oh, What a Love song into a more layered, lush, and cosmic recreation, while further depth came with producer, bassist, keyboardist, and vocalist Don Dixon (who has also produced R.E.M. in the past) at the helm.
She Returns from War is the brainchild of Hunter Park, who is known for the vivid pictures she paints with lyrics like, “Losing count of the hours, wandering all the different rooms/ I would like the chance to travel all the hallways of your spine/ I would plant a thousand flowers, and pick the petals for the rest of time.” Vocalist/guitarist Jesse Ledford and drummer/guitarist/accordionist Charlie King complete the trio.
Oh, What A Love was recorded at Columbia’s Jam Room Recording Studio early this year and will be released with 10 Foot Woody Records, which is also in Columbia.
