The Columbia Museum of Art is offering free admission to the opening day of their newest exhibits, Georgia O’Keeffe: Her Carolina Story and Independent Spirits: Women Artists of South Carolina on Fri. Oct. 9 fro 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
In light of Columbia’s recent flooding disaster the CMA wanted to offer residents a brief reprieve from flood recovery efforts. The exhibit is the first ever to examine O’Keeffe’s “artistic epiphany” (as described by the CMA website) which happened in South Carolina in 1915 when one of O’Keeffe’s Charleston friends showed her work to famous photographer Alfred Stieglitz.
CMA’s exhibit is in conjunction with Columbia College’s centennial celebration of O’Keeffe’s time at the college as a professor of art.
