Local singer-songwriter Hector Qirko recently released a down-home follow up to his first album Wherever You Go with the 13-track stunner Field Notes.
Qirko called on some of his friends from his former home Knoxville but was proud to record much of the album in Charleston, his home now for the past five years. Some of the local heavyweights who contributed include Jack Burg (drums), Ron Wiltrout (drums), Roger Bellow (fiddle and mandolin), Johnny Spell (lap steel), and Kevin Crothers (bass).
Field Notes was recorded around town at both downtown’s Hello Telescope (Jay Clifford and Josh Kaler) and West Ashley’s Ramshackle Studio(Andy Dixon).
Raised in South America, Qirko came of age musically in the States, where he worked with Blues Hall of Fame artist Lonnie Brooks in Chicago. In Knoxville, Qirko performed on over 1,500 songs on TNN’s 1-40 Paradise and Pickin’ at the Paradise series, backing acts like Porter Waggoner, Bela Fleck, Buddy Emmons, and Reba McEntire. After winning over a dozen Best of Knoxville awards with his own band, Qirko decided to bring his clever country-folk sounds to Charleston.
