The Royal Tinfoil used to pound Charleston venues on a regular basis with their raw, drunken mix of honky-tonk and rock ‘n’ roll that drove local audiences totally berserk. It didn’t matter if they were at the Drop In Deli at Folly Beach or on the main stage of the Pour House — it was always guaranteed to be a wild, sweaty affair complete with shotgunned PBRs and “Little Lotta Whiskey.”
But the full band has been on hiatus, having played only one 2015 show together, which went down last weekend at the Royal American. But the two founding members — the unhinged and growling Mackie Boles and Lily Slay, with her soaring, operatic vocals — have been back at it with a family reunion-style residency at the Pour House deck. This week marks the final show for the acoustic duo and one not to be missed since Boles says they’ll be doing all the old Tinfoil favorites and a nice helping of new material, too. In the usual Tinfoil fashion, they promise shit’ll be real, real weird. “It’s gonna be a party,” Boles says.
