Matt Jones, best known as lovable meth dealer Badger on Breaking Bad, is also an improv comic who’s been teaching and directing sketch and improv for 18 years at places like Upright Citizen’s Brigade. Jones calls his job, “tricking people professionally.” Touche. He currently stars on the CBS comedy Mom as Baxter, the irresponsible ex-husband to Anna Faris’ character, Cristy. But his improv chops go way back. At 17, Jones was performing improv and sketch comedy all over Los Angeles and by 22 he was working at the Boom Chicago theater in Amsterdam. In a 2013 interview with the website Splitsider, Jones says this of European audiences, “They don’t really get subtlety. So you can’t just stand there and talk and be clever. You actually have to, like make big moves. You have to be funny fast.” For an idea of Jones’ not-so-subtle humor we perused his bevy of UCB videos and stumbled upon a gem. Perhaps one of his lesser known accomplishments, Jones’ short film Les Douchebags Horribles won best film at the LA Film Race, a competition that challenges filmmakers to make shorts in 100 hours. Playing a white trash boyfriend to a gal with a yeast infection, Jones’ character quips, “I wonder how cows make donuts.” Something we’ve always wondered ourselves.
