I recently interviewed Mary Alice Monroe for the debut of her newest novel, A Lowcountry Wedding, and we got to talking about the hype around the book, including a pretty sweet release party tomorrow. Monroe let me in on a secret that means nothing to me, but should be very valuable for brides-to-be … she’s giving away a free wedding — one that’s valued at $40,000. “Only in Charleston could this happen,” laughs Monroe.

If you’ve ever watched the Today Show pick out a wedding for a lucky couple (literally the best part of my pre-high school morning TV ritual), then you have some idea of how this giveaway will work. Anyone can submit a short video, 60-90 seconds long, about why they deserve a Lowcountry wedding. Monroe and a few other people will choose four or five finalists, and then the public will vote on the winner. The deadline is May 31st and finalists will be announced on June 13th.

And as Monroe says, “The wedding is all-inclusive. We just can’t provide the groom.”
