Happy Cinco de Drinko, Charleston. As most of us know, Cinco de Mayo is an Americanized take on a Mexican holiday. In 1862 Mexico defeated France at the Battle of Puebla. In 2016 we drink $3 margaritas. Read on for a comprehensive list of Charleston’s Cinco de Mayo celebrations. If your bar or restaurant is hosting a big bash that we’re missing, please email connelly@charlestoncitypaper.com. Olé!

Bar Mash kicks the party off at 4 p.m. with tequila specials and live music.

If you’ve got tequila on the brain then you may want to check out The Cocktail Club’s new tequila drink, After the Disco, made with strawberry-infused Del Maguay Crema Mezcal, coconut-infused Plantation Grand Reserve five-year rum, fresh lime, pineapple juice, and gomme syrup.

We weren’t yankin’ your chain with that $3 margarita talk. Head to Basico from 5-10 p.m. to snag some cheap margs, listen to live music, and ride a mechanical bull.

Bay St. Biergarten will be serving $5 Don Julio margs and nacho specials. And if you’re really hungry, put down $10 to enter a taco-eating contest for the chance to win $150 in prizes. And also tacos.

From 5-11 p.m. SOL Southwest Kitchen will have live music, tequila tasting, and $5 margaritas, as well as SOL’s usual happy hour food and drink specials.

Fill Restaurant & Piano Bar will have Mexican food specials, marg specials, and, of course, a dueling piano show.

From 5-11 p.m. at DIG in the Park, Park Circlers can enjoy live music, prize-filled pinatas, $1 taquitos, $3 tacos, and $3 margaritas and Coronas.

Stereo 8 hosts a pinata party with $6 1800 Margaritas, $4 house margaritas, and $3 tacos. Oh, and prize-packed pinatas.

Mex 1 Coastal Cantina hosts a party with live music and drink specials like $3 Corona Lights and Dos Equis, $3 Milagro Blanco shots, and $5 Milagro cocktails. There will also be a sombra dance contest where best guy and girl dancer win $25 giftcards to Mex 1. And! There’s a taco-eating contest where the winner receives free tacos from Mex 1 for the month of May. But would you even want more after that …

What do $3 Mexican tacos and $3 Tecates have in common? You can find both of them all day long at both Yo Bo Cantina locations. The usual happy hour specials from 4-7 p.m. also apply, including $6 mason jar margs and $1.50 PBRs.
