[image-1]The date of the federal trial for Michael Slager will remain undecided until next year, U.S. District Judge David Norton ruled Tuesday. With the state trial of the former North Charleston officer slated to begin Oct. 31, Norton chose to hold off on setting an official court date until state matters are concluded.

Slager was indicted in May on charges of a federal civil rights offense, using a firearm during the commission of the offense, and obstruction of justice stemming from the shooting death of Walter Scott. Prosecutors also allege that Slager intentionally misled SLED investigators by claiming that Scott was coming toward him with a taser at the time of the shooting. If convicted, Slager could face a maximum sentence of life in prison.
