It’s International Women’s Day and in support of the cause it’s also A Day Without A Woman, a strike of solidarity to fight for “equity, justice, and the human rights of women and all gender-oppressed people.” If you’re wondering where your female co-workers are, there’s a clue.
But many in South Carolina may be cautious to participate due to lost wages or fear of employer blowback. That said, even if you’re not striking today, there are still ways to support the cause. The easiest? Wear red in a show of solidarity, or better yet, put your money where your mouth is and shop at women-owned businesses.
To get you started, here’s a list of women owned or co-owned restaurants in the Lowcountry:
Bertha’s Kitchen
Pickled Palate
Dellz Deli
Fleet Landing Restaurant & Bar
The Sparrow
The Orange Spot
The Junction Kitchen & Provisions
Stacks Coastal Kitchen
FEAST Charleston
goat.sheep.cow. and goat.sheep.cow.north
Rudi’s Caffe e Vino
Ladles Downtown
Muse Restaurant and Wine Bar
Sunflower Café
