YouTube video

Last week Billboard Magazine — yep, that Billboard — premiered the new “Pomelos” video from Charleston’s own Mechanical River. In the post, Billboard called the one-man-band project from Joel T. Hamilton “a prodigy in every sense.”

Directed by Emmy Award-winner Brandon Ward of video production company, The Frame Theory, the video is a stop-motion piece that plays around with the single’s cover-art collage created by Hamilton’s friend, Rebecca Harrelson.

Hamilton told Billboard, “We were going to use the static cover image and let the song play over it with no motion, but then we started playing with the idea of small movements and the classic bouncy-ball, sing-a-long effect. We were introduced to the guys at Frame Theory and they were patient enough to visually articulate every little spin and motion we asked them for. It was a fantastic and fun experience.”

Mechanical River’s seven-inch vinyl of “Pomelos”  is out now via Electric Lady Records.
