While getting around Charleston on two wheels is far from ideal, the support for bikes and folks on spokes is steadily growing.
Charleston Moves, Charleston Music Hall, D’Allesandro’s, New Belgium, and Lunch and Recess have partnered up to support and celebrate this movement with an evening of biking and bicycle films.
Sat. Oct. 7, head to the Recovery Room at 6 p.m. with your trusty, decked out bicycle and follow Charleston Moves as they lead the group to the Music Hall. Best dressed bike will win a prize, and there will be a raffle for a spankin’ new ride, with proceeds benefitting Charleston Moves.
This year’s film lineup was built by veteran festival New York Bicycle Film Fest (now in its 17th year) and includes a dozen films. Some highlights include Boy, a film directed by Justin Chadwick, that follows a man coping with the loss of his son; Cycologic, directed by Emilia Stalhammar, Veronica Palsson, and Elsa Lowdin, that tells the story of Amanda Ngabirano, a woman determined to build a bike lane in her city of Kampala, Uganda; and Backpedal, a film directed by Ryan Cockrell that takes place in our very own Holy City, highlighting the dangerous conditions cyclists face every day (check out the trailer below).
The films run 2.5 hours, and an after-party location is TBA. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 day-of and can be purchased here.
