The Daniel Island Library and Charleston Museum have partnered up for a series of programs that bring Lowcountry history to DI residents.
The first program in the series takes place next Wed. Sept. 20 from 1 to 2 p.m. Charleston Museum’s curator of textiles Jan Hiester will present “Historic Textiles of the Charleston Museum.” The presentation will include pictures of varying objects from the museum’s collection; Hiester will explain how the pieces were acquired, and what role they play in local history. For example, a quilt may have ties to a community of women during the 18th century, or a shoe may depict changing fashions of a certain century. The museum’s current textile exhibit “Piece by Piece: Quilts Inspired by Nature” is on display through Oct. 8.
Be sure to visit the Berkeley Library site for updates on more Charleston Museum events; the next program will take place Oct. 25 and is aptly themed for the Halloween season, “Manners Most Morbid: Funerary Practices and Traditions of Charleston’s Past.”
