No, you don’t need to fly to Germany dressed to the nines in a too-tight lederhosen to experience all the frothy wonders of Oktoberfest. In fact, you don’t have to travel very far at all for overflowing steins, brats, and live music.
Sat. Sept. 30 from noon to 6 p.m. at O’Hear Avenue and Empire Avenue in Park Circle you’ll be transported to a mini Munich at the second annual Park Circle Oktoberfest.
Keeping with tradition, there will be a Dedication of the Taps by Mayor Summey and North Charleston City Council and a stein hoist and beer carrying competition for all the strong men and ladies out there.
Participating breweries — Palmetto, Hi-Wire Brewing, Jekyll Brewing, Stone Brewing, New Belgium, Wicked Weed, and Southern Tier Brewing — will be introducing special releases (look for wood stout verticals and French oak saisons) for the event, in addition to their standard brews.
For Bavarian fare, 20 local vendors will be serving up some twits on classics, along with the eats you know and love. Fusion Jonez, Cameron and & the Funk Dumplins, and traditional Oompah band Charleston Symphony Orchestra Polka will provide the entertainment.
The festival is free to attend, and all food and drink options are pay-as-you-go.
