If you didn’t get the chance to experience Vassilki Falkehag’s Changing Index installation at Redux this past month, today is the last chance to immerse yourself in the artist’s lifelong study. [content-1]
Born in Greece in 1945, Falkehag has studied the relationship between man and nature for decades. Changing Index is the first time, though, that Falkehag says she is comfortable using the term “versus” when it comes to this relationship. “It’s industry versus nature … I need people to understand, no sugar coating.” While the exhibit speaks to the state of the world in general, it also specifically references Lowcountry problems. “I live in Mt. Pleasant,” says Falkehag, “And I’ve been going back and forth to Mt. Pleasant for years and how it has changed is very obvious. It’s a personal issue I have — really the community’s aesthetic beauty is becoming uniform.”
Falkehag will discuss the evolution of her exhibit, what she’s learned since the beginning of the installation process, and what will become of the organic and inorganic materials in the exhibit tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Redux. The talk is free and open to the public.
