At Fresh Future Farm in North Charleston, neighbors help neighbors.
When FFF chief farm officer and founder Germaine Jenkins heard from a customer that they could buy produce cheaper at a nearby store, she decided to reexamine her prices.
“We could either talk down to folks about economics of scale or we could lower our prices. I chose the latter,” said Jenkins in a press release.
Jenkins has been working toward creating the discount since this past summer. With the new pricing scale, the farm will set a traditional price, but customers can request the discount at the register and pay what as little or as much as they can afford
The new sliding scale goes into effect Sat. Feb. 16 and will continue until further notice.
Recently named one of the “50 Most Influential People in 2018” by Charleston Business Magazine, Jenkins has worked to make FFF a resource for the surrounding Chicora-Cherokee neighborhood in southern North Charleston.
The farm store at 2008 Success St. is open to the public Tues.-Sat. from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. during the winter and fall seasons and 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. during the spring and summer. FFF sells basic groceries as well as a range of speciality items for those with specific dietary restrictions. They accepts SNAP, cash, gift cards, and credit/debit cards. [location-1]
