Baker’s Bar is now open in West Ashley, taking over the South Windermere space previously occupied by Starbucks. The restaurant, a third concept from Normandy Farm Bakery and One Broad Street co-owners Mike Ray and Ben Johnson, serves pizzas, daily pasta specials and more.

Baker’s Bar opened on Sept. 8, six months later than Ray and Johnson had anticipated when they purchased the property in November 2019. After waiting out the quarantine, Ray has been pleased with the response in South Windermere.
“Since we’re over here basically on the Greenway, it’s definitely a little more family oriented,” he said. “We’ve expanded the menu with appetizers, and we make our own pastas and raviolis and stuff like that.”
Baker’s Bar downtown, which was located in the basement under One Broad Street, shuttered at the end of September when Ray and Johnson permanently closed the all-day cafe upstairs. The two also own two Normandy Farm Bakery locations — one in South Windermere and one downtown.
With the equipment from the downtown Baker’s Bar now sitting unused, Ray said he would be open to a second location, but isn’t actively looking.
