South Carolina health officials counted another 3,567 cases Wednesday, bringing the state’s monthly total to 78,522. With 11 days remaining in the month, January has seen the most monthly cases since the onset of the pandemic. The previous high came in December (77,679). According to The State, the highest single-month case total in previous other months was 52,000.
The total number of cases now sits at 362,451 and 5,729 deaths. Out of 14,331 tests reported today, 24.9% were positive.
Several local hospitals responded to Gov. Henry McMaster’s criticism yesterday when he claimed they have only been administering half of the doses they’ve received. MUSC officials reported they have administered all the doses they’ve received, further clarifying that they keep one days’ worth on hand in case the next shipment arrives late.
